Faithful in the Small Things

This month, in our different programs, we've touched on metabolic health. Things like: how the endocrine system is supposed to work and what goes wrong in diabetes. We taught how we should take care of ourselves both when our endocrine system is working well and when we're fighting chronic illnesses like diabetes.
This brings to mind the biblical principle of being faithful in the small things (in order to be faithful in the big things).
"Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much,
and whoever is unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much."
Luke 16:10 CSB
Why do we take care of ourselves? Why do we teach health education to communities? What is the point or the goal? I would like to suggest that, big-picture-wise, it is not just to have healthier bodies, or live longer lives, or be disease-free, but most importantly, it is to glorify God.
"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do,
do it all for the glory of God."
1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV
"Eating and drinking" are very small things. But as this verse illuminates, every "small thing" matters and we should be faithful in the things God has entrusted to us, whether big or small.

Our bodies. Our health. Our families. Our relationships. Our spiritual life.
In each area of our life, there are small and big things we can do to be good stewards of what God has given us and to be faithful to him.
It is not just a matter of: Eating the salad. Going to the gym. Staying connected to family. Reading our Bible. It's the reason why we do them. In other words:
I don't just eat healthy and exercise because I don't want to get diabetes; I do it because it glorifies God. I don't just read my Bible and go to church because that's what Christians do; I do it because it glorifies God. I don't just work on that broken relationship to avoid repercussions; I do it because it glorifies God.
Amidst all the teaching that we do in our ministry on health and wellness, our foundation is the why; the reason why we do what we do: to glorify God and be faithful with all he has given us, both in the physical and the spiritual, the small things and the big things.
